1 100.0 280 18 (3) The Condensers and InductancesThe capacity, 0-^ (Fig. 5), was made up of six unitsconnected two in series, three in parallel. Each unit wasinsulated for 10000 volts and had a capacity of 0.01 m.f.The condenser plates were immersed in oil. Corona gaps setfor 10000 volts were placed across the terminals of each unitto prevent breakdown of the insulation resulting from possi-ble unequal distribution of potential. The capacity, Cg, wasmade up of four similar units connected two in series, twoin parallel together with the Moscicki condensers used inconnection with the first method. The inductance, L.. , con-sisted of two air coils of 360 turns of #10 B. & S. wire.The coils were in parallel but magnetically insulated fromeach other. On 600 cycles they had an impedance of 9 ohmseach. The high tension winding of a 5 k.w,,6600/110 volt, 60cycle Westinghouse power transformer served for Lg. The func-tion of these inductances is explained in connection withthe experiments.
